Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Ben Thompson, a notoriious British-born American Old West gunfighter, gambler and lawman, one of the fastest and most dangerous gunfighters on the frontier, elected City Marshal of Austin, TX, he was ambushed in the San Antonio theater with his friend King Fisher, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 11″ x 6 1/2″
