Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Dave Tutt, a gambler and former Confederate soldier, shot through the heart by none other than Wild Bill Hickok, single most influential due in Western history, a standoff occurred when Tutt intentionally walked out in the public square wearing Hickok’s gold pocket watch he took as collateral for a poker loss, Tutt drew first, fired, but missed, Hickok fired a single shot from an incredible distance of 75 yards, directly through his chest, in true Hollywood drama, he staggered a few steps, then collapsed and die on the porch of the courthouse, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
