Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Luke Short, a legendary American Old West gunfighter, gambler and saloon owner, known as the “Deadliest Dandy” due to his immaculate style of dress, close friend of Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, owned the Oriental Saloon in Tombstone and the White Elephant in Fort Worth, despite his violent life, he did not die in a shootout, passed away in his bed from chronic kidney disease, at the age of 39, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
