Description
Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Jim Courtright, a lawman and racketeer “Longhair Jim”, tried to extort money from Luke Short’s gambling saloon, when Short refused, he called him out into the street, Courtright drew his pistol first, but the hammer of his gun got snagged on his watch chain, Short drew and fired, blew off Courtright’s right thumb, preventing him from cocking his single-action revolver, he switched the gun to his left hand, but was shot three more times in the chest, killing him instantly, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
