Description
Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Billy the Kid, arguably the most iconic and heavily romanticized American Old West outlaw and gunfighter, rose to legendary status in the 1878 Lincoln County War in New Mexico, he was captured and sentenced to hang, but staged a daring escape, killing two guards in the process, he was then tracked down again, caught off-guard and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in a dark bedroom who shot him through the heart, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
