Description

These authentic pieces of Canadian mercantile history represent the storied legacy of the Hudson’s Bay Company. The first is a vibrant red “Imperial Darjeeling Tea” tin, featuring the iconic HBC coat of arms and clear lithography, originating from the company’s Winnipeg and Vancouver wholesale divisions. The second is an earlier, taller “The Golden West” tea tin, showcasing a highly detailed, classical lithographic scene that speaks to the late 19th or early 20th-century aesthetic. Both are constructed of lithographed tinplate. The red Darjeeling tin remains in good vintage condition with minor surface scuffs, light oxidation on the gold-tone lid, and shelf wear to the underside. The “Golden West” tin shows significant character-adding patina, with heavy oxidation, surface loss to the lithography, and the absence of its original lid. Imperial Darjeeling: H 5″, W 3.75″, D 5.5″. Golden West: H 6.25″, W 4″, D 4″.
