Description
A remarkable trio of early biographical works focusing on the life and legacy of Thomas Alva Edison, perfect for collectors of industrial history. Leading the stack is a 1938 stated first edition of Edison’s Open Door by his private secretary, Alfred O. Tate (E.P. Dutton & Co., New York), featuring an intact original dust jacket protected in a plastic sleeve, an elegant “Lilyan V. Schneider” ex-libris bookplate, and a printed facsimile inscription from Edison. Below it sits a rare 1894 London first edition of The Life and Inventions of Thomas Alva Edison by W.K.L. Dickson and Antonia Dickson (Chatto & Windus), an important contemporary account featuring 200 illustrations and a historic Plympton Grammar School Christmas presentation plate dated 1896. Anchoring the lot is a 1969 first edition copy of The Thomas A. Edison Album by Lawrence A. Frost (Superior Publishing Company, Seattle). The collection shows age-appropriate wear, including minor chipping to the Tate dust jacket, foxing and light edge wear to the 1894 Dickson binding, and visible peeling, paper loss along the upper right edge, and internal water staining on the Frost album.
