Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2002:
Description
This multi-volume lot features an excellent collection of reference books tracking the mechanical and cultural history of the talking machine. Included is The Complete Phonographer by James E. Munson (1877, Harper & Brothers), detailing the era’s shorthand and recording methods, alongside Music and the Gramophone compiled by H. L. Wilson (1926, George Allen & Unwin Ltd). The visual evolution of these devices is beautifully captured in the bilingual Italian/English work Fonografi e Grammofoni / Phonographs and Gramophones (1987, BE-MA Editrice), while the large-format volume The Incredible Music Machine by Russell Miller and Roger Boar (1982, Quartet Books) provides an extensive historical account. Completing the grouping are two notable modern facsimiles: a 1971 Allen Koenigsberg reprint of the 1900 guide The Phonograph and How to Use It, and a modern reproduction of W. Gillett’s classic technical manual The Phonograph, and How to Construct It. Overall, the books present in good to very good condition, showing typical shelf wear, light cover scuffing, edge rubbing, and some internal aging or minor spotting consistent with careful use. H 12″, W 10″, D 6″. See photos for condition.
