Description
This rare Columbia Phonograph Company brown wax cylinder record dating to circa 1898–1899. Produced by Columbia in New York and Paris, this acoustic-era cylinder features the Greater New York Quartet (noted on the vintage slip as the “Greater New York Comedy Four” featuring A.B. Elwood) performing the traditional piece “Massa’s in de Cold Cold Ground.” Lot includes the cylinder, an original paper identification slip, and a modern reference note. Physically, the cylinder is in stable condition with no visible breaks or cracks, displaying typical light surface scratches and expected oxidation on both ends consistent with its antique age.
