Description

Late 1890s brown wax cylinder produced by the Columbia Phonograph Co. of New York and Paris around 1898–1899, this brown wax cylinder features a recording of the famous “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore, performed by the renowned Gilmore’s Band. The cylinder itself is in good stable condition, free of any detrimental breaks, cracks, or deep scratches, though it shows some expected light surface speckling and minor edge wear consistent with its significant age. It is accompanied by a very fragile, torn fragment of original paper slip identifying the title, along with a modern descriptive collector’s note. H 4.25″, W 2.25″, D 2.25″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
