Description
Columbia Phonograph Company brown wax cylinder record, catalog number 7121, featuring the sacred vocal solo “Blessed Assurance” performed by pioneering recording artist J.J. Fisher. Dating from approximately 1898–1899, this early audio format represents the dawn of the commercial recording industry, hailing from Columbia’s New York and Paris era. The lot includes the original brown wax cylinder, its beautifully illustrated primary Columbia cardboard storage container, an original paper insert titled “Vocal Solos by J. J. Fisher,” and a small slip of identification paper. Objectively, the brown wax cylinder exhibits significant surface mold, spotting, and blooming typical of organic wax composition of this era, which will impact playback quality. The cardboard container shows heavy wear, paper loss, tearing around the rim, and expected fading, while the paper inserts show creases and age-related toning. H 5″, W 2.5″, D 2.5″.
