Description

An engaging description from a seasoned collector’s point of view reveals this early commercial brown wax phonograph record to be an exceptional piece of turn-of-the-century recorded sound history. Produced by the Myers Globe Phonograph Record Co. of New York City, the cylinder is paired with its original handwritten slip identifying the track as “My Sweetheart When a Boy,” alongside an additional internal pencil note reading “G NYP Spencer; Better original slip. Left Unsaid.” This style of brown wax cylinder represents a pivotal era from the late 1890s to the very early 1900s before mass-molded black wax dominated the market. Objectively assessing its condition, the wax cylinder surface shows heavy, characteristic surface oxidation, spotting, and mold blooming throughout, though it remains free of visible structural cracks. The included historical paper notes exhibit expected age-toning and jagged edges. H 4.25″, W 2.75″, D 2.75″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
