Description

This expansive, highly desirable collection includes 21 original antique Edison Amberol Records monthly promotional supplements dating from 1920 to 1922, published by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. in Orange, New Jersey. From a seasoned collector’s standpoint, finding such a substantial chronological grouping of these fragile, ephemeral dealer handouts is quite uncommon; they serve as a spectacular historical window into the early acoustic recording era. The lot is systematically arranged with a top row of ten copies from the 1920 calendar year, a middle row of seven copies from 1921, and a bottom row of four copies from 1922. Visually striking, each flyer features period-specific cover illustrations, distinct Art Nouveau and early Art Deco typography, and comprehensive monthly lists detailing both standard regular selections and specialized Royal Purple records. Many pieces retain a local dealer ink stamp on the reverse for “James Rigby, Edison Phonographs” of Paterson, New Jersey. Objectively assessing their condition, the paper shows age-appropriate toning, minor edge wear, occasional faint creasing at the corners, and a few small tears or light stains consistent with handling, though the collection remains structurally crisp and completely legible. H 8″, W 5″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
