Lot 3424:
Description
An exceptional, comprehensive accumulation of 12 original early 20th-century Thomas A. Edison phonograph cylinder record catalogs and supplements, offering an invaluable archival look at early American recorded music. Published by the National Phonograph Co. and Thomas A. Edison, Inc. of Orange, New Jersey, this historic assortment spans from 1904 to 1913. The collection comprehensively details various formats of the era, containing specific listings for Edison Gold Moulded Records (2-minute), Edison Standard Records, Edison Grand Opera Records, and Edison Blue Amberol Records (4-minute). It features iconic period typography, historic artist portraits (including Billy Murray and Ada Jones), and classic cover art like the “Music for Every Home” illustration. The lot includes individual monthly supplements for October 1904, March 1905, August 1905, May 1906, January 1908, May 1909, December 1909, and October 1913, alongside two substantial master catalogs from March 1911 and March 1912. The items exhibit expected age-related wear, including minor edge fraying, page toning, small tears, and separation occurring between the pages on some of the multi-page supplements, with notable water staining primarily confined to the inner covers of the 1911 and 1912 booklets, though all text and illustrations remain highly legible.
