Description

Two exceptional early 20th-century paper trade cards promoting Thomas A. Edison’s pioneering phonographs, representing a golden age of American advertising ephemera. The vertical card, measuring 5.5 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide, boldly proclaims the “Edison GEM Phonograph” as the “Greatest Ever Made” on the front, while the reverse features the stamping for wholesale agents “United States Phonograph Co.” of Newark, New Jersey. The horizontal card, measuring 3.375 inches tall by 6.25 inches wide, showcases a magnificent graphic illustration of a gentleman demonstrating an Edison machine, with the reverse side offering a compelling three-step “Christmas Advice” buying guide. Both cards are printed on period cardstock and remain in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting only minor edge wear, light toning, and minimal handling marks consistent with their age, while maintaining crisp typography and clear graphics. H 5.5″, W 3.25″, D 0.01″ and H 3.375″, W 6.25″, D 0.01″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
