The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3406:
Description
A fascinating collection of five early 20th-century paper ephemera items published by the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey, designed to promote Thomas Edison’s cylinder record formats. These historically significant booklets showcase the vibrant graphic design of the era, featuring stylized cover illustrations like an organ grinder monkey, a bagpiper, and a “Minstrel” theme. The group contains several Edison Gold Moulded Records catalogue supplements spanning from 1906 to 1909, as well as an Edison Standard Records (2 Minute) list. These pieces serve as an exceptional window into the early days of recorded audio marketing and popular American music selection. Condition varies throughout the lot; the January 1909 booklet is reduced to the cover only, the October 1906 organ grinder issue features a completely detached cover, and the Minstrel supplement shows noticeable water damage along the back cover and on pages 15 and 16. The remaining pieces display typical age-toning, edge wear, minor creasing, and light structural fraying common for antique paper materials. H 6.25″, W 3.5″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
