Lot 3386:
Description
This fascinating piece of early cinematic history is a 100-franc Action privilégiée (preferred share) certificate from L’Edison’s Kinetoscope Français, numbered 0938 and dated March 15, 1895. Embodying the late 19th-century Art Nouveau aesthetic with its intricate, symmetrical black-and-white foliage borders, this historical document represents Thomas Edison’s venture to commercialize his pioneering motion picture viewing device in France, featuring official Brabant tax stamps, localized corporate text for Paris and Brussels operations, and authentic administrative signatures. The certificate displays some expected age-related toning, minor localized foxing, and faint creasing along the margins, but remains beautifully preserved inside its contemporary gold-painted wooden frame. H 17.5″, W 13.5″, D 1″. See photos for condition.
