The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3345:
Description
This exceptional quarter-sawn oak Edison cylinder phonograph record cabinet dates to the early 1900s, reflecting the golden age of early American audio history. Designed specifically to house Edison wax cylinder records, the cabinet features six pull-out drawers equipped with their original ornate brass hardware pulls. Five of the drawers contain their original built-in grids consisting of cardboard pegs organized in six rows of seven pegs each, many still bearing faint numbers on their tops. Objectively, the piece exhibits expected wear from age, including surface scratches, minor fading, dust accumulation, and a loose collection of broken posts and fragmented cylinders in the bottom drawer. Structurally, the corner legs are intricately carved from two pieces on each corner; two of these sections have separated at the glue joints but are included intact, and the rear veneer has pulled away along the edges but remains complete and ready for re-gluing. H 35″, W 23.5″, D 20″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available Post-Auction.
