The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3247:
Description
The Imperial II Lambertphone is an early 20th-century British-market cylinder phonograph manufactured in Germany by Excelsior Werke to play Thomas Lambert’s giant 6-inch-long celluloid cylinder records. Lamberts celluloid records were in direct competition with Edison. Because the Lambert Company went bankrupt in 1906 following endless patent lawsuits from Edison, very few Imperial machines were produced. This machine is a survivor that needs work. The Lambertphones were “flip top” machines and this is missing the box that doubles as its case. The motor winds and runs but needs a belt. The mandrel spins freely. The working crank is not correct for this machine as it is key wind. The paint on the machine is fair at best. We do not know if the supplied reproducer, which is in good condition is correct for this machine but it is the way it was set up. The horn is a spun aluminum Pathe style. This machine is pictured on page 167 of the Fabrizio / Paul Talking Machine Compendium.. Measures 12.5” wide, 7.5” dep, 5.5” tall. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
