Description
Large color poster for the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle featuring Mme Réjane, a celebrated French stage actress, and the names of eighteen other famous artists shown in “living visions” using the Gratioulet-Lioret system of sound and film . The Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre was a groundbreaking pavilion at the Expo that offered audiences one of the first demonstrations of synchronized sound-on-film. It predated standard commercial talking pictures by nearly 30 years. The films for the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre at the 1900 Paris Exposition were shot by French photographer and cinematographer Clément-Maurice using the Cinépar camera using standard 35mm film and was uniquely paired with a synchronization system that married moving images with sound from Henri Lioret’s “Idéal” wax cylinders. The “Idéal” , also known as the Lioretographe, used large concert wax cylinders that could record up to four minutes of audio. The poster is in VG condition and looks to be conserved. The artist is Francois Flameng and it was printed by Affiches Camis in Paris. It is framed under UV plexiglass. The poster measures approx. 50” wide X 8’ tall. The frame measures 55” wide, 8’-6” tall. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. No shipping on this item, customer pickup or 3rd party transporter only.
