Description

This exceptional Belle Époque lithograph print of Jules Chéret’s famous “Théâtrophone” advertisement was issued as Plate 33 (PL.33) in the celebrated Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series. Printed in Paris by the renowned Imprimerie Chaix, this authentic period piece captures the vibrant, joyful energy of late 19th-century French poster art, featuring Chéret’s signature “Chérette” figure beautifully rendered using high-quality inks by Encres Lorilleux & Cie. The print is distinguished by the official embossed blind stamp of Les Maîtres de l’Affiche / Imprimerie Chaix in the lower right corner and includes its original margins with printer information along the left side. It comes presented in an elegant, ornate gilt wood frame under protective Acrylite OP-3 UV-filtering plexiglass. The piece presents in excellent vintage condition with minor edge toning to the paper consistent with age, and while the print has slipped slightly and will need to be straightened in the frame, the colors remain wonderfully bright. The frame shows only faint surface scuffs and minor wear to the gilt finish. H 20.5″, W 16.25″, D 1″. See photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg Collection
