Lot 1258:
Description
This is a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 training rifle, a compelling piece of WWII-era instructional militaria designed for drill and gallery practice, likely manufactured between 1939 and 1945. Constructed with a smoothbore barrel and simplified hardware, this piece features a light-toned wood stock and a bolt-action assembly. Notable markings include the serial “42167” on the receiver, “87” on the bolt handle, and “15” on the floor plate; as is common with trainers, the imperial chrysanthemum is absent. The buttstock features a handwritten notation in ink or marker reading “CAL,” likely a later addition for identification. The piece shows expected field wear, including compression marks and scratches on the wood and light surface oxidation on the metal. It is missing the front stock endcap and the buttplate, and the trigger does not trip the action when the bolt is cycled, requiring mechanical attention. H 5.5″, L 44.25″, D 2.5″. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N 42167 C&R Eligible.
