Lot 1257:
Description
This vintage Marlin Model No. 27 is a classic example of early 20th-century American craftsmanship, manufactured by the Marlin Firearms Co. in New Haven, CT, between 1909 and 1912. As a precursor to the 27S (introduced in 1913), this original No. 27 features the distinct octagonal barrel and slide-action design favored for its reliability. The barrel is roll-stamped with patent dates through November 29, 1904, and is chambered in the historically popular .25-20 Marlin caliber. The rifle showcases a walnut stock with a crescent buttplate and a ribbed “Tootsie Roll” style forend. The metal surfaces show a natural aged patina with surface oxidation consistent with its age. The wood stock appears to have been refinished with a high-gloss coat; there is a noticeable scratch on the left side of the buttstock, though it is free of cracks. While the bore is uncleaned, the rifling remains visible. H 5.5″, W 1.5″, D 42.25″ Please see photos for overall condition. NSN. C&R Eligible.
