Description
This is a US Springfield Armory Krag-Jorgenson Model 1896 Rifle manufactured in1897 and chambered in .30-40 Karg. Used as the standard issued rifle during the Spanish American War era, the Krag saw less than a decade of service before it was replaced by the newer Model 1903. This particular rifle has been sporterized, with its front site replaced and its original stock modified. It does appear to have an original 22-inch barrel that has been unmodified in length. Markings are clean and crisp and the finish exhibits some of its original bluing, with visible oxidation and patina. The wood stock is in solid condition and displays a hand engraved outdoor motif and checkered patten. Stock has some dings and scratches from use and storage. Bore is clean and rifling is prominent. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 57976. Classified Antique.
