Lot 1187:
Description
This Winchester Model 1890 is a classic “gallery gun,” featuring the iconic octagonal barrel and slide-action design that defined early 20th-century American target shooting. Manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in New Haven, Connecticut, this specimen features an exposed hammer and a crescent metal buttplate. The barrel markings remain legible, showcasing patent dates from 1888 through 1911. Notably, this rifle is a non-matching assembly; the receiver serial number 617930 dates to approximately 1919, while the lower frame number 478481A dates to roughly 1912. The steel displays a heavy, honest brown patina with surface oxidation and scattered pitting consistent with age. The walnut furniture shows typical field wear including bruising and scratches, but remains structurally sound with no cracks or chips visible. The bore is dark with visible oxidation. H 5.25″, W 40.25″, D 1.25″..22Short; SN: 460813A/617930; C&R Eligible.
