Description

This is a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 training rifle cambered in 6.5x50mmSR Arisaka. Unlike standard service rifles, this example features a smoothbore barrel and was designed for instructional use with blanks or wooden bullets. The receiver is marked with an “S” in a Star/Cherry Blossom, the logo for Sakai Manufacturing who produced the Sakai Training Rifles. It also displays serial number 3773 and features the characteristic dual gas relief holes. The wooden stock shows a distinct kanji cartouche on the buttstock, indicating that the rifle was part of The Imperial Reservist Association. This association was a massive, state-sponsored organization in Imperial Japan (founded in 1910) and one of their functions was military training of the youth. Receiver and barrel exhibits remnants of its original finish with thinning and patina visible. The wooden stock has various scuffs, indentations, and signs of field use, though it remains structurally sound. It also displays the serial number “3773” stamped into the forend. The butt stock does show wood separation. Bore is dark and shows oxidation. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. This is an excellent piece of Imperial Japanese military history and would highlight any collection. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 3773 C&R Eligible.
