A Classic Opulence and General Antiques Auction ONLINE ONLY
Lot 217:
Description
This is a superb example of a classic Arts and Crafts period dining chair, manufactured by the Grand Rapids Bookcase & Chair Co. of Hastings, Michigan, under their coveted Lifetime Furniture brand, as confirmed by the original paper label. The chair’s form is archetypal Mission style, featuring quarter sawn oak with a rich, dark patina that highlights the beautiful grain. It boasts a sturdy, rectilinear frame with thick posts and a broad, slightly trapezoidal splat back. The seat appears to be an original or early brown leather, characteristic of the era’s preference for natural, durable materials. The chair is in excellent antique condition for its age, showing minor wear consistent with use, such as light scuffs and marks to the wood, and some faint creasing or surface wear on the upholstered seat. The structure appears sound and tight. The chair number “130” is hand-written on the label. H 37″, W 18″, D 17.5″
