Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1417:
Description
A set of two antique oak barrels, utilized for beer or spirits. The larger and rarer of the barrels shows the stamping of “PERPLIES BRG CO / Jefferson, Wisconsin”. The Henry Perplies Brewing Company, based in Jefferson, Wisconsin, opened in 1940 and closed in 1953. They were one of six breweries that made Jefferson a home from 1857 to 1953. Perplies advertised that their beer was brewed with “Artesian Well Water.” The smaller of the barrel displays faint markings, “W.O. Chancer” on the head. Both barrels wood shows age and wear, with deep patina, staining, and separation/cracking between some of the staves. The metal bands show significant oxidation. These wooden barrels are a must-have for any collector of Breweriana, making a unique addition to any collection. Large Barrel: H 15”, W 12”. Small Barrel: H 9.75”, W 7.5”.
