Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1416:
Description
This impressive set of genuine Longhorn steer horns, often used as classic Western-themed decor or “steer horn mount,” is a magnificent example of Americana. The horns themselves exhibit the characteristic sweeping curvature and ivory-to-pale-yellow coloring, tapering to sharp tips. They are joined by a substantial central sheath crafted from saddle-brown leatherette which is secured by black leatherette caps at either end. The decorative detail includes brass-finished dome-head studs and a wrapped jute-like rope element over a separate piece of brown leather, lending a robust, rustic aesthetic that speaks to ranch and lodge styling. This piece likely dates from the mid-to-late 20th century, produced as a decorative item for a den, bar, or restaurant. The condition appears good overall, with natural age and surface wear consistent with an item of this type. The horns show a glossy patina, and the leatherette has some minor indentations and surface scuffs, but all materials appear intact and securely fastened to the mounting block visible on the underside. H 5″, W 60″, D 6″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
