Description
Lot of late 19th and early 20th century wearables which include:
1. Black Silk Plush Top Hat with photo made by the prestigious A.J. White, Hatter to the Royal Family, in St James’s, London. A second stamp on the interior of the hat indicates a Grease-Proof treatment by Aish Jay & Co., London, along with hand-written sizing notations. The photo is stamped on the back “Photographed By / J.A. Hanigar, / Huntingdon, PA.”
2. Victorian era folding hand fan. It features a lush, voluminous guard of natural black ostrich feathers attached to a set of ivory or faux-ivory sticks and guards. The sticks are ribbed design and are decorated with a flower-like motifs, adding a touch of Art Nouveau aesthetic typical of the turn of the century.
3. Vintage Men’s Cuff with the “Wizard.” The cuff was a popular accessory in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a stylistic element to men’s wear. This cuff has a diamond shape pattern with gold plated cuff links. Attached to the cuff is the “Wizard.” Patented on February 5, 1888, the Wizard was a cheating device clipped to the inside of a gambler’s sleeve, hiding a card until it was needed. The reproduction “marked” card is an example on how the Wizard works.
Overall, these are solid pieces that show average wear for the age and depict the fashion of late 19th and early 20th Century. These are perfect accessories for your gaming room to add to the nostalgia of early Western gambling. Please see photos for overall condition and markings.
