Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1310b:
Description
Here is a great ensemble of Western memorabilia from the 20th-century. The centerpiece is a stunning, dark olive-brown velvet vest featuring an intricate woven pattern of burnt orange and gold wheat-like stalks and bold blue motifs, giving it a rich look. The vest has a shawl collar, a period-correct back adjuster strap, and is accented with three white, decorative buttons. It is paired with a light tan long-sleeve shirt and a plain black cravat. The ensemble is highlighted by a cast metal U.S. MARSHAL shield-style badge with a central star, pinned to the lapel, and a double-chain gold-tone watch chain with a decorative locket fob and pocket watch casing, adding an air of authenticity to the Old West lawman look. The outfit is topped with a broad-brimmed, beige felt cowboy hat with a high, uncreased crown and a simple thin string hatband. The condition is good for a vintage ensemble; the velvet vest shows signs of wear, particularly some discoloration, thinning and fraying on the back panel, and a few snags/frays near the pockets and chain attachments, consistent with age or use. The shirt and hat appear clean and well-preserved. The metal accents and badge show a nice patina.
