Lot 1301:
Description
This is an outstanding example of a Limberts Arts and Crafts period dresser, complete with its original swivel mirror, crafted in quartersawn oak. The style is classic Stickley-era Mission, known for its clean, straight lines and robust, honest construction. The dresser features a bank of four drawers: two smaller drawers over two full-width drawers. The square, hammered-effect hardware is original to the piece, and the drawers retain their original lock plates and keyholes, as seen on the top left drawer’s interior and exterior. The clear manufacturer’s mark, “LIMBERTS CRAFTS, GRAND RAPIDS AND HOLLAND,” firmly dates this piece to a high point of the American Arts and Crafts movement. The accompanying mirror is separate, designed to mount to the back of the dresser via two vertical supports that attach to the mirror’s swivel base and the dresser’s back panel. Condition is good overall for its age. The quartersawn oak shows beautiful ray fleck and tiger striping under a warm, original finish. There are typical signs of use and age, including minor scratches, rubs, and areas of finish wear consistent with a century of use. The back of the dresser has two remnants of wooden dowels or original mirror supports attached Dresser 35” tall. 42” x 20”.
