Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1300:
Description
A lovely example of a Mission or Arts and Crafts topper shelf or book shelf, likely dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900-1920. Its construction in dark-stained quarter-sawn oak is characteristic of the era, and the exposed through-tenon construction at the sides and the curved ends with the trefoil or “clover” cutouts are classic design elements reminiscent of Gustav Stickley or other high-end manufacturers like L. & J.G. Stickley or Limbert Furniture Company. While no clear manufacturer’s marks are visible, its quality suggests a connection to the major American Arts and Crafts producers, possibly originating from Grand Rapids, Michigan, or Syracuse, New York. The item appears to be in Good to Very Good Vintage Condition with a rich, dark patina and general surface wear commensurate with age and use, including some minor finish inconsistencies and small dings visible on the surface. H 7″, W 24.5″, D 7′.
