Description

This is a quintessential piece of Arts and Crafts furniture, likely dating from the early 20th century (circa 1900-1920s), serving as a functional and robust hall tree or coat rack. It features a sturdy, four-sided solid oak central post with a rich, darker stain, mounted on a cross-shaped X-base with four slightly flared feet, providing excellent stability. The post is fitted with four rugged cast iron or cast steel coat hooks, each featuring two prongs and a simple, geometric cutout design in their mounting plate, typical of the straight-forward, unadorned aesthetic of the style. The condition is good and consistent with age; the oak shows a beautiful patina, minor dings, and surface wear/scratches typical of decades of use in an entryway. Note that two of the four original cast metal hooks are broken and require replacement or repair. The metal hooks that remain have a lovely aged, dark finish and are securely mounted.
