Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1297:
Description
This is a beautiful example of an early to mid-20th-century cedar chest, often used as a hope chest. The chest is constructed from aromatic red cedar, visible on the interior and the underside of the lid, while the exterior has a warm, applied finish accentuating the natural knot patterns of the wood. The piece stands on four simple, slightly carved feet and features a molded trim around the top and functional wooden handles on the sides. A brass-colored plaque on the inside of the lid identifies the manufacturer as Lakeside Craft Shops, Sheboygan, Wis., which manufactured cedar chests and other furniture, suggesting a likely production date from the 1920s through the 1940s. The interior also has a metal mechanism near the top, possibly part of a locking feature or lid support. The overall condition shows significant age-appropriate surface wear, including numerous scratches, scuffs, and some white marks/residue on the top surface, suggesting it was used as a table at some point. The structure appears sound, and the interior cedar is clean and intact. H 21″, W 48″, D 21″ NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
