Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1259:
Description
An excellent example of classic American Arts and Crafts movement furniture, specifically a twin bed by the esteemed manufacturer L. & J.G. Stickley. The piece exhibits the characteristic rectilinear form, solid construction, and unadorned aesthetic associated with the style, emphasizing the beautiful quarter-sawn white oak grain. The clear, impressed mark, “THE WORK OF L. & J.G. STICKLEY,” confirms its provenance from the Fayetteville, New York-based firm. The design features a tall, paneled headboard and a lower footboard, both crafted with through-tenon construction visible on the corner posts, and it comes complete with the original long metal bed rails. The bed is in good, original, unrestored condition consistent with its age. The oak has a rich, warm, medium-dark patina with surface wear, including minor scratches, rubs, and small dings visible, particularly on the legs and edges. The metal bed rails show surface rust and original hardware for attachment to the head and foot boards. The overall structure appears solid, ready for use or a light restoration. H 41.5″, W 38″, D 76′.
