Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1125:
Description
These are four finely crafted flint/chert projectile points, typical of prehistoric North American cultures, likely ranging from the Paleo-Indian to the Archaic periods. The two larger points on the left appear to be lanceolate forms, possibly Dalton or similar early styles, showcasing expert bifacial flaking and a dense, dark gray-brown chert material. The two smaller, stemmed points on the right are more characteristic of later Archaic arrowheads or dart points, with the smallest exhibiting a reddish-tan chert. All four pieces display tool marks from their creation, with the overall form and workmanship indicative of skilled lithic reduction. Visible inventory numbers are marked in black ink on the faces of all four artifacts (“15C,” “15B,” “123,” and a partial “121”). Condition is generally excellent, showing original flaking and expected evidence of use, age, and natural patination; there are no major breaks or modern chips. Estimated largest point: H 4.75″, W 1.75″. Estimated smallest point: H 2.25″, W 1.0″. From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
