Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1124:
Description
These are a fantastic set of six archaic-era projectile points, likely dating from the Middle to Late Archaic period in North America, showing excellent examples of early lithic technology. The grouping features stemmed and corner-notched styles, typical of a wide range of types such as Archaic Stemmed or various Kirk variants, though a definitive type-casting would require hands-on analysis. The materials appear to be various types of chert and possibly jasper, exhibiting a range of colors from light tan and gray to rich reddish-brown. Note the handwritten cataloging numbers on the faces of some points, which tie them to a collection. Condition is overall good for ancient artifacts; they display expected patination, wear, and minor field-related chips to the edges and bases consistent with their age and use. The measurements are . H 1.75″ to 2.25” in length. From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
