Lot 1111:
Description
Papago Tohono O’odham polychrome star tray circa 1960s. Tray features a radiating motif at its center achieved through the use of contrasting dark and light natural fibers, likely bear grass and devil’s claw which are materials traditionally used by the Tohono O’odham for basket weaving. The star is surrounded by concentric rings of woven fiber adding depth and texture to the design. The rim of the tray is neatly finished indicating careful craftsmanship. The tray exhibits a rich patina and the natural fibers may have slightly faded or changed in color. Dimensions: 13” diameter x 2” tall. Please see photos.
