Description

This is a wonderful example of contemporary Acoma Pueblo pottery, crafted and signed by K.S. Chavez, visible on the unglazed base, along with “Acoma N.M.” The style is a classic burnished redware jar with a short, tapered neck and a rounded body, decorated with hand-painted designs in black mineral paint. The central motif is the recognizable Bear Paw or Medicine Bear design, with two bears depicted around the body, each featuring the distinct turquoise or light blue “breath line” representing life and spirit. The upper and lower bands of geometric and fine-line patterns are typical of Acoma revival pottery, showcasing the exceptional talent in traditional Pueblo earthenware. The piece appears to be in overall very good to excellent vintage condition, showing minimal surface wear consistent with display, with no visible chips or cracks. H 10.75″, W 12″, D 12″ (approximate). From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
