Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1102:
Description
This is a wonderful example of Native American Pueblo pottery, likely from the Santa Clara Pueblo given the characteristic buff or tan slip, the polished finish, and the use of geometric and curved design elements in black (fire clouding/carbon paint) and red-brown pigments. The upper register features an incised or lightly carved pattern of repeating crescent or wave shapes, which adds a beautiful textural element to the traditional globular form with a flared rim. This style of pottery, featuring the combination of incised and painted designs, is highly collectible. The condition appears to be good with a nice sheen, showing some minor scuffs/surface wear and a few faint lines or marks consistent with age and handling. H 5.5″, W 6″, D 6′. From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
