Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1087:
Description
This is a Native American Northern Plains bow, measures approximately 42” in length. Constructed from a single piece of wood, likely Osage orange, or Hickory, commonly used by Plains tribes. The bow has a gentle re curved shape and there are remnants of red ochre paint on the flat side of the bow itself, which could be ceremonial or decorative. The bowstring appears to be made of braided sinew or similar natural fiber and attached in the traditional manner with wrapped ends at the nocks. There are no structural cracks observed. See photos.
