Description
This is a Hupa made basket circa 1940s. Baskets like this were traditionally made by the Hupa, Karuk, and Yurok tribes of Northern California. Known for their tight weave an intricate designs, this basket features a repetitive geometric stair-step design in black against a lighter background. The twining technique of a basket like this creates a very tight weave often good enough to hold water or mush. The basket is in excellent condition. Dimensions 5 inches total width 3.25 inches total height. Mouth opening 3.75” diameter. Please see photos.
