Description

Maidu basket circa 1920s. Hand woven with natural fibers like willow and redbud using a coil technique and is conical in shape, wider at the top and narrowing to a slightly rounded base, a form commonly used for burden baskets or storage. There is an undulating geometric pattern in a dark weave on the lighter background around the entire surface of the bowl. Through its center is a leather loop with a string connected to a length of woven yarn of dark green, light green and red below. Rim exhibits minimal loss from use/age. Dimensions: 8.75” rim diameter x 4” tall. Approximately 4” base diameter. Woven yarn length about 18”. See photos.
