Description
Southwestern folk art ceremonial objects, primarily featuring two hand-held gourd rattles and a carved wooden figure. The smaller rattle is made from a dried gourd w/ wooden handle, depicting an anthropomorphic figure with a diamond-patterned body. Another gourd rattle, partially visible in the images, is much larger and decorated with fur, leather wrapping, beads, and feathers. The central item is a cylindrical carved corn effigy, detailed with a recessed, carved ear of maize (corn). The base of this piece has a carved mark. All are contemporary folk art items made with traditional techniques. Smaller rattle 8” long; large rattle 16” long; carved figure 8.25” tall.
