Description
Pima coiled-construction olla basket circa 1930s. It features a traditional shape with a wide body and narrower slightly flared opening. The basket is made using a coiling technique at the center of the base, with devil’s claw and subtle geometric square design throughout the piece. Olla baskets like this were historically used by the Akimel O’odham (Pima) people of Arizona for storage. Overall in good shape, with the widest exterior waist, and the base exhibiting loss of weaving. Dimensions: 17.5” wide (waist) x 13.75” tall x 10.5” diameter opening. Base diameter 7.5”.
