Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1001:
Description
Akimel O’odham (Pima) coiled basket from the American South-West, was manufactured in the 1950s or earlier. This basket image exhibits a design of a central circle (2.5” diameter) with a distinct opening in the center of the basket. Eleven zigzags spiral from the center- a pattern typical of Pima baskets. Darkening from age and use, there is some loss of the weft around the middle of the basket. Remnants of a string loop on the back, suggest it was hung on the wall at some point. 16” diameter and 4” depth.
