Description

This impressive, near life-size bronze statue captures the youthful elegance of a standing horse foal. Cast in the round using the lost-wax method, a piece of this scale and material immediately anchors a garden, estate, or equine collection. Its style is classic figural statuary, ideal for park or fountain settings, likely dating to the late 20th or early 21st century as a modern foundry casting, though it evokes 19th-century bronze tradition. The material is a sturdy bronze alloy, displaying a deep, rich dark brown to nearly black patina that has taken on a handsome sheen from handling and outdoor exposure. The integral base, however, shows a vibrant, crusty green/blue verdigris patina, indicating prolonged outdoor weathering and giving a strong sense of age and depth to the piece. This is a very substantial piece that immediately brings a focal point to any setting. The overall condition is good, consistent with outdoor display; the dark patina is mostly intact with minor areas of rubbing or slight brassing, and the verdigris on the base is desirable and stable. No chips or cracks are visible, though there are a few pin-sized casting imperfections, which are typical of the material and process. H 50″, W 48″, D 12′. See photos.
