October Fall Classic
Lot 1217:
Description
This is a great two-piece grouping for the country or feed advertising collector! The first sign is an impressive, deep cobalt blue porcelain enamel sign for the “Member Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Ass’n. Inc. POSTED.” These signs were ubiquitous in the mid-20th century, marking ranches and properties and acting as a clear legal deterrent. Its strong blue and white color scheme and heavy gauge steel construction are hallmarks of quality enamel work. The second sign is a brightly colored, embossed metal tacker for “Honeggers’ BIG H FEEDS,” a classic piece of mid-century agricultural advertising from the Illinois-based company. The graphic features a striking 3D-effect ‘H’ logo on a white and red background, typical of 1940s-1960s commercial art. The lot is in good overall condition consistent with age and outdoor display. The porcelain sign shows a fantastic gloss with scattered scuffs, chips, and mounting hole wear, but no major rust-through. The Honeggers’ embossed sign has general surface wear, fading, scratching, and some bending near the edges and mounting holes, with paint loss revealing the metal beneath, particularly around the perimeter. Porcelain Sign: H 10″, W 20″. Honeggers’ BIG H FEEDS Embossed Metal Sign: H 17″, W 12.25″. See photos.
