Description

This is a fantastic collection of four mid-century ‘Atomic Age’ automobile hood ornaments crafted from chrome-plated pot metal, representing the streamlined, aviation-inspired styling of the late 1940s and 1950s. The grouping includes four distinct designs: the horizontal-V ‘Jetfire’ style (likely 1952 Oldsmobile), a slender center fin/spear (similar to 1951 Chevrolet), a horizontal V with mounting studs (similar to 1948 Chevrolet), and the notable long, spear-like emblem that the collector community affectionately refers to as the ‘Donut Chaser’. The Donut Chaser is the long, low-profile version of the classic Packard mascot from the 1948-1950 era, which succeeded the earlier, more upright Goddess of Speed. As is common for salvaged exterior auto parts, the condition is fair to good, showing signs of pitting, oxidation, rust staining, and heavy chrome loss across the surfaces, consistent with decades of use and exposure. The largest piece (Oldsmobile-style) has a noticeably bent armature wire at its rear mounting point. The items are sold as-found, perfect for restoration or as industrial-style garage decor. 1948 Chevrolet mascot: 14.25″ long, 2.25″ wide, 2″ tall. 1951 Chevrolet mascot: 16″ long, 6.25″ wide, 2″ tall. 1952 Oldsmobile: 17.5″ long, 8″ wide, 3″ tall (minus armature). 1948-50 Packard: 14.5″ long, 3″ wide, 3″ tall (minus armature).
